Welcome To My Honey Money Tree

Hi! My name is Mike. Come on in and hang out! digging-for-goldI’m your host and you’re welcome to stay as long as you want. While you’re here let me tell you a little about myself and my dream to put Honey In The Pot.

I’m not one to feel sorry for myself. No. Not me. I’m one of those guys that will get knocked down seven times and I’ll stand right back up. Dust myself off. And say, “Let’s make it eight!”

It’s been a long time since I last got laid out on the floor against my wishes. Thought I was past all that. Was taught Computer Science in the military, essentially finding my niche in life. Went to school full time in Computer Science. Worked full time at the same time. All the while building a camp house on a lake on weekends.

I’m Not Lazy – I Just Have A Dream

So I’m not lazy. Hardly. I spent the next 34 years in IT. That’s Information Technology. Worked my way up the corporate ladder. Made a big switch from corporate IT to a software development company. Big cultural change but I adapted. And continued to do so for the next 18 years. Senior Developer. Research and Development. Image Analyst.

Not long ago, on a Monday morning I went into work. First thing, the boss steps into my office and in a low voice says, “We need to talk.”

Changing times. Changing development platforms. Much lower cash flow.

An hour later I walked out. Unemployed. Unemployable. (Age, say what you want). No severance. Four years out from full retirement age. I had been making in a couple of days what I would be drawing from social security. Then I remembered something.

I have a DREAM!

Flashback several years…

I came across a book that outlined an internet marketing system. Everything I read really spoke to me and I knew inside that it could and would work. Everything but the cost. Buying web domains. Web design software. Security. Email.

Did I mention the immense trial and error involved?

Maybe later, I decided.

Back to the here and now.

First thing I thought of was that internet marketing system. A quick check of Google turned up some links with similar ideas. One gave out what appeared to be excellent training but every little nibble involved a little more money. Lots of money. I decided to give it 72 hours and keep looking.

After three days, there was one name that continued to rise to the top: this guy named Kyle. He not only brought the game, he actually believed it. Believed in it. That discovery of Wealthy Affiliate changed everything for me. It’s a simple four-step process and I am so glad to be a part of it now. Check out Wealthy Affiliate to see how it works.

My Success Story

I now believe that I can achieve the goals I have always looked for. The training programs are so rich with information that I keep going back to them for reference. The entire membership is friendly and helpful and like-minded in that we all want to build successful internet businesses.

In no time at all I have:

    • Been introduced to the marketing concept behind Wealthy Affiliate
    • Found and honed down a niche market
    • Acquired the knowledge to use Keyword Tools such as Jaaxy.com and WA’s own Keyword Tool
    • Designed and constructed an attractive website that I have built out on using my knowledge of my niche market
    • Optimized my website with Search Engine Optimization
      (SEO)
    • Indexed my website for Google® and Bing® using Google+
    • Drawn internet traffic to my website

I not only have a website through which I promote Wealthy Affiliate, but using the knowledge and experience that I have gained through WA, I’ve also added a few other websites in niches that I love:

  • guitartheorywithmike.com – a website devoted to teaching fretboard theory to those who have taught themselves to play but never did anything in Music Theory.
  • recipesfooddrink.com – my website dedicated to my second love: all things food and drink related. My unique take on food preparation is worth the visit alone!

All this coming from a dream of starting my own business online. And WA provided the catalyst. For Honey In The Pot!

I want to hear your own success story! Because I know that you can do it, too!

    Hey Mike,

It’s great to hear your story and how you pushed through what could have been a depressing moment and turned it into an amazing opportunity!

Was it hard for you to decide on a niche to be involved with?

What kind of help is there if someone doesn’t know which direction to take?

Hi James, thanks for the comment and for the encouragement!

The niche was probably the most difficult thing to settle on. Number one, I wasn’t really sure what was being looked for, and number two, I simply couldn’t see it as being what I would call a niche. If you want to throw in a number three, why in the world would anyone be interested in that kind of info? The niche evolved through Music Theory and being a guitarist the narrowest I could whittle it down to was Fretboard Theory, and finally, Fretboard Theory for guitar players who have played for years with little or no understanding of music theory. Then once I began pulling it out into content for repeated postings, I was surprised – no, stunned – at the amount of information I was able to put together and post. There’s still a ton I haven’t even gotten to, but what it did was force me to understand the niche thing.

As Kyle likes to point out with his metaphors about golf clubs, it’s actually a single make and model of golf club that becomes his niche. I know little about golf, so I won’t go there.

As far as help goes, you can’t beat Wealthy Affiliate as a resource. There is a slew of people that are fellow members that have been there, done that, and they are more than willing to share their experiences. You can go to the upper right of your Dashboard screen, under your profile pic and post anything, requests for help included. Personally, I found that Kyle is always available. Anytime I had a question, especially when it came to the niche selection, he was always there. The best piece of advice he gave me was while we were discussing selecting a niche and he said to just ask myself, “how can I help someone with ________?” For whatever reason, that made it click.

Direction to take? I’d start with the Online Educational Certification Courses. That’s the green tab underneath the Activity Dashboard. Do the assignments, do the extra stuff, go visit the classrooms, get involved. Say hi to new members. Read the blogs people post. There’s a ton of how-to stuff in the blogs alone. Go to the SiteBuilder and ask to give feedback. Get involved. You’d be surprised what you’ll learn!

Hope this helps, James, and isn’t too long-winded! Thank you again for your comment. I know I’ll be seeing you around!

Great looking website you have here! I like to leave at least one constructive comment. Have you thought about moving the privacy policy link to the footer of you website? I always like to put it at the bottom because it is not part of my main content. Hope this helps!

      Hi David,
I’m chuckling because, yes, I’ve thought about moving to a beach front condo for some time now. Lol… no, all seriousness aside, have I thought about moving…??

    Hi Mike,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your life story. I think it’s fantastic that you were able to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and find a solution in Wealthy Affiliate.

Might I make a small suggestion? Get yourself a logo or an image which represents what your site is all about. Fiverr is a great resource and they’d be able to do something really professional for a couple of bucks.

    Best of luck –
    Steve
